Lambeth LBC has appointed Robert Henderson as interim corporate director for children, families and education.He was previously executive director for children and learning at Southampton City Council, having been appointed in 2020.Henderson said: ‘I'm really excited to be joining Lambeth as the interim corporate director for children, families and education, and can't wait to meet all the staff, partners and residents working to make Lambeth the best place to grow up for children and young people.' Saba Tahzib has been appointed director of devolution and growth in Berkshire.The role with Berkshire Prosperity Board will help lay the foundations of mayoral strategic authority covering the Thames Valley area.Tahzib was formerly group executive director for strategy, growth and product development at Community Foundations and previously spent seven years at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, including two as deputy director of local growth strategy. Wayne Bexton has taken up the newly-created role of executive director for major capital programmes at the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA).Bexton was previously director of economy, environment and assets at Nottinghamshire CC and has also spent seven years at Nottingham City Council and eight at Derbyshire CC.WMCA chief executive Ed Cox said: ‘Wayne has an unparallelled track record of delivering large-scale place-shaping infrastructure.'Bexton added: ‘In my discussions with the mayor, it has been clear that the West Midlands has unparalleled opportunities for growth that can transform communities, deliver new homes and create high-quality jobs.' Anthony Douglas is set to take a role as improvement advisor for Southampton City Council.Douglas was chief executive of Cafcass (Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service) for 15 years before stepping down in 2019.It follows Southampton receiving a rating of ‘requires improvement' for its children's services following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).Health secretary Yvette Cooper said Douglas would ‘support the council to develop a robust, accountable and sustainable improvement plan with timely and effective measures of success'. Rachael Shimmin, former chief executive of Buckinghamshire CC, has been named as one of five deputy lieutenants in the county.The role provides support to the Lord-Lieutenant in carrying out civic and ceremonial activity.Shimmin was awarded the OBE for services to social care in 2014 and appointed Buckinghamshire chief in 2016.She is currently chief executive of Anchor, a provider of specialist housing for older people.Lord-Lieutenant Countess Howe said of the appointments: ‘Each brings a wealth of experience, a strong commitment to serving the community, and much to offer the county.'
