Look abroad to solve the social care conundrum

As the Casey Commission on adult social care reform gets under way, can England stop its dreams of a successful outcome from descending into nightmares? Ann McGauran reports from a seminar offering international perspectives.

The terms of reference of the independent Casey Commission on long-term adult social care reform have landed. But the nation remains in the dark about the policy changes that will emerge in England as a result.

The Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) is already concerned the commission's timescales – it concludes in 2028 – are too long, and that it should move more quickly to give the Government time to bring in any changes before the next General Election.
