On your marks for the AI era in local government

Councils are racing to use AI to cut costs and improve services – but a shortage of skills is holding them back and time is running out. Dan Peters reports.

The capabilities council officers need are changing fast, but they cannot be expected to magically become more productive simply because local authorities buy AI platforms to run on their computers.

With the right training and application, AI should allow councils to forecast demand and allocate budgets more proactively.
