Mayors to share income tax by 2028

Every mayor will be offered a share of income tax and business rates retention, the Government has announced.

Every mayor will be offered a share of income tax and business rates retention, the Government has announced.

The proposals would see mayoral strategic authorities forego some grant funding in exchange for a share of local income tax from April 2028, and business rates from April 2027 – the latter being an extension of existing arrangements in some areas.
