Gloucestershire CC has appointed Nathaniel Hooton as interim chief fire officer and executive director of community safety.He is currently deputy chief fire officer and will take over from Mark Preece in October, following his retirement.Chief executive Jo Walker said: ‘Nathaniel demonstrated a clear understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing the service, together with the leadership experience, strategic insight and commitment to continuity of leadership required to guide the organisation through this important period.‘This appointment provides continuity and stability while we continue to prepare for future changes associated with local government reorganisation.'The council expects to begin recruitment to the permanent chief fire officer and executive director of community safety position in 2027. Nottinghamshire's nine councils have appointed Paul Robinson as strategic programme director for local government reorganisation in Nottinghamshire.Robinson has past experience managing parts of local government reorganisation (LGR) in Cumbria and worked for three years as director of enabler services at Westmorland and Furness Council.He will work with all nine councils in the county that will form two new unitary councils.Robinson said: ‘While I have seen first-hand through my LGR experience in Cumbria the challenges of the transition to new councils, it is an opportunity to use some of that learning to help with the important challenges faced here in Nottinghamshire, not as a blueprint, but as supportive insight to progress our programme, shaped by local identity, local ambition and local priorities.' Will Morlidge has been named by Derbyshire CC as the independent chair of the Derbyshire Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS).Morlidge has previously served as acting executive director of East Midlands Combined County Authority and chief executive officer of the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership.Environment cabinet member Cllr Carol Wood said: ‘Will comes to us with a wealth of experience chairing and leading partnerships across the region and we're pleased to welcome him on board to lead the next phase of our local nature recovery strategy.' The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) has announced the appointment of three new trustees to its board.Sudha Bharadia has more than 20 years of experience in investment management including a decade focused on global impact investing.Adele Leighton is currently director of operations at Autism Initiatives and has worked in the charity sector for more than 25 years.Dean Okereke is a healthcare transformation leader with 10 years' experience working in the NHS, central government and healthcare consulting.A spokesperson said: ‘We warmly welcome Sudha, Adele and Dean and look forward to the perspective and experience they will bring.' Caroline Lamb has announced her retirement as director general for health and social care at the Scottish Government.She has held the role since 2021, having previously spent 16 years at NHS Education for Scotland, including four as chief executive of the organisation.Lamb said: ‘It's been an absolute privilege to work with so many amazing people across SG, NHS Scotland, local government and beyond, but I'm looking forward to having a bit more time and headspace for other things.' Aptia has appointed John Herbert as actuary senior director.Herbert has more than 35 years of experience advising trustee and corporate clients on actuarial, funding and risk management matters. He joins Aptia from Equiniti, where he specialised in benefit equalisation and remediation projects and previously spent 17 years at Isio.Herbert said: ‘The pensions industry continues to evolve rapidly, presenting both challenges and opportunities for schemes and sponsors. I look forward to working with clients and colleagues to help deliver practical, high-quality actuarial advice.'
