Two councils in Scotland have started the pilot project to provide free school meals to primary schoolchildren. Glasgow and West Dunbartonshire councils were the first to get the scheme under way, and East Ayrshire, Fife and Borders councils will follow shortly. The six month-long pilot, offering all children in the first three years of school a free meal, has been set up to see if providing a nutritious lunch will improve their diets.
