Rates reset could force 'deep cuts'

Local authorities will be forced to make ‘deep cuts to important services’ if the Government pushes ahead with resetting the business rates baseline in 2026-27, the District Councils’ Network (DCN) has warned.

Local authorities will be forced to make ‘deep cuts to important services' if the Government pushes ahead with resetting the business rates baseline in 2026-27, the District Councils' Network (DCN) has warned.

In a response to a government consultation, DCN, which has estimated that the total net loss for districts from the reset before transitional protection would be around £230m in 2026-27, called for a delay until 2027-28
