The Government's doubling down on the recovery grant for deprived urban authorities in the final local government finance settlement has left the sector deeply divided.

The £440m increase to the grant, which was confirmed to have become an annual payout, was welcomed by the Special Interest Group of Municipal Authorities (SIGOMA), while the Government said the most deprived places will receive 45% more funding per head than the least deprived in 2028-29.
