Rising to the cyber defence challenge

Councils have found themselves in the firing line as a covert online war rages between the UK and hackers from criminal networks and hostile states.

The National Crime Agency (NCA) has said ‘ransomware remains the greatest cyber serious and organised crime threat to the UK', while the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has highlighted the threat of distributed denial of service (DDOS) attacks from Russia to councils.
