There are signs of progress with closing the cities productivity gap with London

Closing the gap between London and big cities outside the capital is vital to delivering broad-based national growth and prosperity. - and there is good news to celebrate and build on, says Andrew Carter.

Britain's big cities are often reluctant to be compared to London. But the productivity gap between London and other big cities is a major reason why the UK is poorer than many international peers.

Closing this gap – by raising productivity outside the capital – is essential to tackling nearly two decades of weak national growth and deep-rooted geographic inequality.
