Surrey CC has turned to the Internet in order to attract new social workers to the local authority. The council has uploaded a video to the popular YouTube website in order to recruit social workers, after previous recruitment campaigns failed to attract enough responses. ‘YouTube was an obvious option, given its popularity and profile,' said group HR manager, Roderick O'Connor. ‘We worked with Channel 2020 to carefully construct a video clip which had the look and feel of an amateur production to fit in with the types of video clips accessible from the site. ‘Although we're not the first council to use YouTube, we're one of the first to use it as a recruitment tool. It will take a while before we know if the video clip has had the desired impact, but it's still a step in the right direction for Surrey, supporting our forward thinking culture.'
