Uncertain times

Following spring's seismic shift in politics, councils face a 'dauntingly busy' summer, writes Jonathan Carr-West.

Life moves pretty fast (as philosophers from Montaigne to Ferris Bueller have noted).

This year, for local government, that feels more true than ever. After Labour's landslide General Election victory last summer, we have seen changes proposed to how councils are funded, to the planning regime and, of course, the biggest restructuring of local government for 50 years.
