The Vale's bright future

Vale of Glamorgan Council’s new strategic plan offers a destination and a transformational route map to take it through to the end of the decade. Rob Thomas explains.

Think of the youngest person you know. Now think of the legacy you want to leave that person as a public servant. Back in the early months of 2024, with some 15 months left to run on our key 2020-25 strategic plan, this is the question we asked ourselves as a leadership team as attention started to focus on our next five-year strategy. This involved thinking about the meaning of our vision of ‘Strong Communities with a Bright Future', what outcomes would we want to see, how we need to change as an organisation and in our approach to deliver those outcomes – and crucially – how will we know if we are making a difference.

Move forward to March 2025 and our new strategic plan, Vale 2030, was approved and published, with its five wellbeing objectives based around place, people and the organisation we represent, namely:
