Various Director roles - Bridgend County Borough Council

Various Director roles - Bridgend County Borough Council

Corporate Director of Wellbeing

Up to £100,000

Closing date: 24 September

We're committed to working together to improve lives in Bridgend County. Our unashamedly ambitious change programme will make a lasting impression on the careers of those who lead it and ensure this authority continues to be a driver and shaper of partnership, as well as a strong and effective voice for our communities.

We're seeking three directors to provide clear, accountable and creative leadership for their professional area. They'll be passionate about delivering a range of quality and accessible services, and be prepared to challenge themselves and others to improve. They'll also be critical to the corporate management of the organisation as we lead it through a new phase of transformation and change. In return, Bridgend County offers a strong community spirit embedded in dramatic and historic landscapes and an organisation that offers genuine professional challenge and opportunity. It's an exciting time to be here.

Integration remains at the heart of our Wellbeing agenda and our new Corporate Director will work closely with the Health Board, encompassing Bridgend, Swansea and Neath Port Talbot to define, develop and deliver shared objectives for the region. Other priorities will include an analysis of current Home Care provision and recommendations for alternative provision models.

Establishing effective commissioning protocols will be vital in ensuring ongoing quality of service that is financially sustainable. The health and wellbeing agenda is fast changing and it's crucial that we can be responsive and adaptable in how we manage ongoing change.

We envisage that candidates for this role could come from either a local government or NHS background. Depending on the appointed candidate's professional background, this role may fulfil the statutory responsibility for Director of Social Services, but a social work qualification/background is not a prerequisite. It's imperative that you can offer a sound appreciation of practical and operational challenges in delivery and that you understand the different dynamics of both local authorities and NHS.

Corporate Director of Children's Services

Up to £100,000

Closing date: 24 September

It's an exciting time to be here.

Improving educational attainment is a priority for the Council and our newCorporate Director of Children's Services will work closely with Headteachers and our Joint Education Service to identify opportunities for improvement and provide advice and challenge to support sustained improvement in provision. Current attainment in Bridgend is comparable to other areas in Wales but is below average when compared to the rest of the UK and closing this gap is hugely important.

Alongside the Education agenda the new Corporate Director will also lead on children's social care and safeguarding. The county has seen a recent surge in numbers of looked after children and this presents both operational and financial pressures that must be managed effectively.

There are clear challenges in this role around leading transformation in models of provision as we endeavour to deliver more for less. The ability to bring fresh thinking to the table will be vital as will the capacity to evaluate new delivery methods and provide sound advice to elected Members, colleagues and partners on options.

You will ensure that our improvement plans are effectively communicated and monitored to ensure consistency and sustainable progress in relation to key indicators. It's important that you can quickly establish credibility with a wide range of stakeholders, including school leaders, other partners in the Education Consortium and the Welsh Assembly.

Corporate Director of Communities

Up to £100,000

Our Corporate Director of Communities will lead on a wide range of services that encompass regeneration, planning & development and streetscene services. We are keen to adopt a more commercial approach to how these services are managed and delivered and we will look to the new Corporate Director to bring substantial marketplace knowledge and experience and a readiness to consider new delivery models that can offer better value for money for residents.

The Council is committed to a considerable regeneration agenda that includes both physical and economic initiatives in a range of settings and this role will be key in realising the full potential of these programmes.

It's important that you can offer strong commercial and negotiation skills, complemented by political awareness, and a good sense of what innovation in the sector looks like. The emphasis of the role is on leadership rather than a particular technical background. You should understand the dynamics and the challenges of change and offer a proven track record of turning initiatives into outcomes.
