Head of Children's Services

London Borough of Hillingdon are recruiting a Head of Children's Services. Reporting to the Director of Children & Young People's Services, in this Chief Officer role you will provide inspirational leadership and operational direction to deliver the borough's vision for children and families. Succeed and you will have had a significant and sustained impact on the lives of vulnerable children and their families in Hillingdon by improving their outcomes.

About the Role

The Hillingdon Children's Pathway Programme was launched in May 2012 to drive forward the transformation of Children's Services across the Borough. The Directorate embraced radical change in all service areas, redesigning services in a way that makes sense to children and their families and placing the service user at the centre of decision making. As the new Head of Children's Services, you will secure this change and lead your service areas to deliver excellent outcomes for children and young people.

Reporting to the Director of Children and Young People's Services, you will lead our front line social work, our looked after children and child protection services as well as the permanency service and three residential children's homes. You will also take lead responsibility for the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH). You will be expected to provide strong leadership and decision making, supporting and driving the realisation of the services' vision.You will work with Members and partners, as well as colleagues across Intervention & Prevention, Safeguarding & Quality Assurance, Children's Special Educational Needs and Children's Disability Services, to ensure a comprehensive service for the borough's most vulnerable children and families.

About you

As a results driven, committed social work professional you will be able to show evidence of achieving significant improvement in services for children and families. You'll have a track record of improving the child's journey through a variety of services, and have the vision and motivational abilities to embed an ambitious programme of change.

Your grounding in child protection will support the delivery of a safe service, and your ability to develop staff will ensure you create a stable workforce where social workers feel supported and confident in their roles. We will want to see strong performance management capabilities that will inform and support the delivery of future service improvement.

Head of Safeguarding, Quality Assurance and Practice Development

London Borough of Hillingdon are recruiting a Head of Safeguarding, Quality Assurance and Practice Development. Reporting to the Director of Children & Young People's Services, in this Chief Officer role you will provide professional leadership for the protection and safeguarding of our young residents. You will be the designated Principal Social Worker and be the professional advisor to the Director and the Council in matters relating to the safeguarding of children and young people.

About the Role

As the new Head of Safeguarding, Quality Assurance and Practice Development, you will drive high quality practice, professional development and a learning environment in which excellent social work practice can grow and flourish.

Reporting to the Director of Children and Young People's Services, your brief will be wide ranging and significant. You will take lead responsibility for audit, standards, quality of practice, policy issues and inspection as well as leading on domestic violence and human trafficking.

You will also hold the position of Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) as well as supporting the Local Children's Safeguarding Board. You will be expected to provide strong leadership and decision making, supporting and driving the realisation of the services' vision. Workforce development will be a key area of responsibility, with oversight of the Social Work career pathway. You will work closely with Members, partners and colleagues to ensure the delivery of your objectives.

About you

You'll have a track record of driving up standards across social work practice, and have the vision and motivational abilities to embed an ambitious programme of change. Your grounding in child protection will provide effective challenge to support the delivery of safe services which deliver the best outcomes for children and their families. We will want to see how you have you have translated learning from audits and inspections to the workplace. Strong performance management capabilities that will inform and support the delivery of future service improvement are a given.
