When change doesn't take root

The values and beliefs that the organisation encourages can change in the same way as priorities change and the person at the top who sets the tone changes, says Blair McPherson.

The new chief executive over sees a restructuring, paints a vision of the future, sets out some clear priorities and stresses the importance of hitting targets. A tumultuous 18 months later they are gone and a new person occupies the big chair. 

They seek to strengthen centre functions through an expanded chief executive office. Their vision is partnerships, and their priorities reflect this. Rather than performance management the emphasis is on compassionate management. Better people management is seen as the way to a more agile organisation.
