If decarbonising electricity by 2030 is the Government's moonshot, phasing out every gas boiler in the UK is an even harder challenge.
Yet there's growing momentum behind heat pumps. Installations rose significantly last year, helped by the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Upcoming building regulations will require most new homes to use heat pumps and solar PV. Recent changes – like removing the one-metre rule that blocked many installations – make adoption easier. And the Government has just announced £8.3bn for its Warm Homes Plan.
