MPs have raised concerns around the impact that a delay to local government reorganisation (LGR) announced this week will have on the Government's devolution agenda.
At a House of Commons Public Accounts Committee session this week interim permanent secretary at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government Will Garton insisted that ministers' withdrawal of reorganisation decisions in four areas and a pausing of a further 16 would not hinder devolution plans to roll out regional strategic authorities England-wide by 2028.
