Connections start at a local level

The key lesson from last month's elections is that politics start at a local level, says Andrew Carter

Following the local election results, Labour is almost exclusively running urban Britain, having gained several key councils.

Labour's gains included Swindon, Plymouth, Stoke-on-Trent, Brighton and Hove, while it won the mayoral race in Middlesbrough and deprived Conservatives of overall control in places like Bolton.
