The Government has turned to councils for extra building inspector capacity as high-rise housing projects continue to be dogged by regulatory hold-ups.

In a letter to councils, the Building Safety Regulator (BSR), which was established following the Grenfell Tower disaster to oversee projects taller than 18 metres, sought to second qualified inspectors to tackle a ‘backlog of applications' and ‘accelerate the approval' of high-rise buildings.
