Housing 'key factor' in rising children's services costs

Poor housing has emerged as a ‘key contributing factor' in councils' mounting bill for children in care, a survey by the Social Workers Union has revealed. 

One in five social workers said their local authority had taken a child or children into care due to ‘unsafe or inappropriate housing conditions' such as mould, damp, vermin infestations and cramped conditions.
