Ministry of Justice (MoJ) plans to devolve funding for youth remand services to local authorities from next April would cost the capital's boroughs £7.3m, London Councils has calculated.
Proposals to strip 15% of the funding from Young Offenders Institutes (YOI) combined with the removal of two thirds of the Youth Justice Board's (YJB) subsidy towards the cost of secure children's homes and training centres means councils across the country face a £16m shortfall, ministers have acknowledged.
