Reflecting on CQC Inspection and Sector-Wide Accountability

Buckinghamshire’s CQC inspection sparked valuable learning—but also raises big questions about inspection burden, fairness, and system-wide accountability, says Rachael Shimmin

Earlier this year, we had our Care Quality Commission (CQC) local authority assessment of adult services at Buckinghamshire Council under the new single assessment framework.It was a detailed and demanding process and ultimately, a valuable one.

Over six months, we submitted evidence, welcomed inspectors on site and heard directly from residents, carers, staff and partners. It was a chance to reflect on our practice, test our assumptions and learn.
