Threading the needle of cheaper and better isn't about efficiency and automation

During this time of transformation, design of technology needs to be in lock step with design of your organisation, says Catherine Howe.

Alongside almost every other council, we are working on a major transformation programme, trying to thread the needle between genuine transformational change and making sure part of that change is going to deliver sustainable finances – put simply, can you make it better and cheaper?

I am profoundly of the belief that the answer is yes, but only if you think differently. You really need to be serious about optimising and properly architecting your technology estate. And if you don't know what I mean you probably need to ask some questions about how your IT is working.
