The complexity and contention of local government reorganisation (LGR) has returned to the spotlight in recent weeks.

A lull followed proposal submissions in November and the leadup to government consultations starting in February, but anger over elections being off and then on again has resurfaced some of the fracturing this enormous restructuring has caused since the devolution White Paper landed in December 2024.
