Still a vital voice for the sector

As members met for its annual conference this week, the Local Government Association have a cascade of issues to resolve including the emergence of mayors, the ramifications of Reform and the impact of reorganisation. Heather Jameson reports.

More than a quarter of a century after it was first formed in 1997, the Local Government Association (LGA) gathered its members for its annual conference in Liverpool this week.

Throughout its history, it has faced the challenge of pulling together a disparate group of political organisations in an effort to speak with one voice for the sector – a near impossible path that it has navigated ever since.
