Helping the mayoral medicine go down

While a staple of democracy in the United States and elsewhere, directly-elected mayors have had a chequered history in the UK. The Government’s White Paper on Levelling Up however, seems aimed at the creation of more mayors, as devolution of power is being intrinsically linked to creating an elected role.

In Norfolk, working across the district and county councils, we are keen to take more responsibility for infrastructure, regeneration and skills in our area, with a firm belief that we have a better understanding of the needs and potential of our communities than Whitehall.
