New branch line shows success of focused local leadership in Oxford

Oxford's Cowley branch line project is a great example of what focused local leadership and indefatigable partnership working can achieve, says Caroline Green.

It's been a momentous week for us in Oxford, culminating in a rather extraordinary train ride carrying ministers, our local MP and local leaders along the Cowley branch line to mark the Government's announcement of £120m funding to reopen the line to passengers for the first time since 1963.

I don't think I've ever witnessed such an excited group of passengers on a train. For local partners, it was a major milestone we have been working towards for years and it was the strength of partnership working between local government, the private sector and central government that achieved it.
