The IMD update is so much more than an obscure technical change

Alison Griffin says it was 'brilliant to see national government take on board the request to include housing costs in the calculation of the "Income" domain in the Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD)'. She adds: 'This IMD update is proof of why it is so important for all levels of government to be talking to and learning from each other.'

For families living in poverty with complex needs, influencing government funding formulae is not exactly front of mind. 

Yet these families lose out if the local services that support them are underfunded due to inaccuracies being baked into the system. National politicians and policy-makers lose out too, risking their decisions not having the desired impact.
