Sector needs clarity and funding to plan for SEND reform

The Government can ill afford to allow their SEND reforms to fail, says Paul Marinko. 'There must therefore be at least some merit in councils demanding greater clarity before committing to a plan.'

If the Government don't cough up with the details on their SEND reforms councils will be drawing up plans in the dark. No one can afford for the reforms to fail so something will have to give.

It is obviously good news that the Government has published its Schools White Paper. It sets in train reforms of services for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and follows ministers promising to pick up the bill for 90% of the sector's current SEND deficits. But was this promise too good to be true?
