Brum granted court order to stop bin protests

Birmingham City Council has been granted a court order to stop protests outside of its bin lorry depots in the latest move in the long-running pay dispute.

The local authority had reported an increase in disruption last week as police reduced their presence at its depots with protesters stopping vehicles from carrying out collections.

On Friday evening, the council reported it had secured an interim injunction that lasts until today, when a further legal hearing is due to take place.

Trade union Unite, which represents the council workers in the dispute, argued the actions of its members on picket lines were peaceful and lawful.

Unite claimed last week Government commissioners have been undermining efforts to resolve the strike.
