Nottingham City Council has confirmed it will submit a proposal to Whitehall for a boundary review as part of local government reorganisation.
Two options for restructuring local government in Nottinghamshire are currently under consideration, both involving Nottingham combining with Broxtowe and either Gedling or Rushcliffe.
Feedback gathered during consultation raised concerns about the proposals, with concerns they either exclude urban areas closely linked to Nottingham or include regions with weaker ties to the city.
Nottingham leader Neghat Khan said the options ‘fail to take that feedback into consideration, and split the Nottingham conurbation, with no thought to the surrounding suburbs identifying with the city, or to addressing the city and wider county's needs for the future'.
Cllr Khan added that the city's boundaries, which were last reviewed in 1997, no longer reflected its true footprint.
