Freedom of choice in children's services

The Guardian on Saturday led with a story about a DfE report about the potential privatization of child protection services to companies such as Serco and G4S.

Quoted extensively was Professor Eileen Munro, who said, in a report for Michael Gove in 2011, that private providers are a 'bad idea', adding that the protection of young people from maltreatment should not be delegated to profit-making organisations.  

 
This view was backed by a letter from 37 top social work academics, all, in essence, asking the DfE to go no further.
