Labour's plans for your future

In his campaign to be the leader of the Labour Party, Ed Miliband spoke favourably about local government. In an article for a national newspaper on 6 July he stated that, by handing power and money to local areas, Labour will reverse 100 years of centralisation.

But he does not recognise that to do so would require fundamental changes in the operation of central government, its culture and ways of working which we outlined in Cracking the code to central government relations (The MJ, 9 January).

Such statements have been made before by leaders of opposition parties, only to find that when in government, there is little change.
