Local government lawyers: filling the age gaps

The recent Lawyers in Local Government (LLG) member survey has shone a spotlight on an issue very particular to law in local government – the ageing demographic of our lawyers.

Lawyers working within local government have a very different age profile to that of the wider legal sector. The mode age is an impressive 45-54 years old, compared to the mode age of 25-34 for all solicitors in practice according to the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority (SRA). That is a stark difference of 20 years. To many of you, this will be no surprise.
