Preparing for the new social housing regulation

Changes to the way social housing is regulated are coming. Local authorities need to get on the front foot, says Kate Dodsworth

With the social housing regulation bill now in parliament, change is coming in the way we regulate registered providers including all local authorities with retained council housing.  

The ultimate vision in the bill is to reshape the relationship between landlords and tenants, to improve and strengthen their relationship and put into greater focus the quality of homes and services. For us, this means moving our consumer remit from a reactive to proactive approach.
