The heat is on

Local authorities are playing a central role in what could be the start of a revolution in heating across the UK.

Investment capital is now going into new heat networks – which means that an increasing number of homes, businesses and public buildings will get their heat from a central source via a network of pipes carrying hot water.

The industry says it’ll mean cheaper, more efficient and reliable energy - and will create new jobs. But critics are worried that businesses and consumers could end up paying more.
