Transforming social housing: The task ahead for council teams

As the new Social Housing regulatory regime came into force on 1 April, it feels like a good time to acknowledge the tremendous efforts of housing teams across the country to get ready for its implementation.

There is a lot to commend about the aims of the Social Housing Act, developed in response to the Grenfell Tower tragedy and the death of Awaab Ishak. The aspirations that everyone should have access to a safe, decent home resonate profoundly with the fundamental principles of social housing and a commitment to making a real difference to the four million households that currently live in social housing and the many on social housing waiting lists who would very much like to.
