Councils are undertaking more than double the number of child protection investigations than they were a decade ago, according to new research by the Local Government Association (LGA).
In the space of 10 years, the number of child protection inquiries begun by councils each day rose from around 200 to more than 500, prompting renewed calls for investment in preventative services.
