Devolution has transformed the way local services work together in London

Everybody is talking about governance. How power is held and distributed is a hot topic, as a fast-approaching Election renews the interest of national government, local leaders, researchers and policymakers.

On paper London’s governance hasn’t changed since our devolution deal back in 2000, when the London mayoralty officially began. But governing London has evolved beyond that piece of paper. The city has been influenced by changes in mayors, borough leaders, national government and numerous external factors such as the pandemic.
