Discretionary business grants fund expected to be over-subscribed

Councils expect to be swamped with applications to a new discretionary fund created to help small businesses that have been blocked from claiming existing grants.

The Government created a £615m discretionary fund after lobbying from local authorities over the number of firms that were struggling to get support, including because they were tenants and therefore not directly liable for paying business rates.
