Essex councils clash over business rates retention pilot

A bid by Essex’s local authorities to pilot a business rates retention project worth up to £20m could be torpedoed by Thurrock Council.

All but one of the 15 councils in the county are said to be behind taking part in a trial of 75% rates retention in 2019/20, but without the support of Thurrock it is unlikely to go ahead.
