Javid backs district council mergers

Communities secretary Sajid Javid has backed two further local government reorganisation proposals – announcing he is ‘minded’ to approve district council mergers in Somerset and Suffolk.

In a written parliamentary statement, Mr Javid said there was ‘evidence of a good deal of local support’ for the mergers of Taunton Deane BC and West Somerset DC, and of Forest Heath DC and St Edmundsbury BC.
