Ministers could have 'too much influence' under new formula

The Government is favouring a new local government funding formula under which ministers would retain a significant amount of influence, The MJ understands.

Whitehall is weighing up whether a new relative needs assessment should be based on either a single foundation model with a number of common cost drivers covering all services or a foundation formula alongside some service-specific formulae.
