Responding to a mental health crisis is extremely sensitive and complex, involving a myriad of considerations and a range of local partners, including councils and police.
Councils recognise that the police may not always be the most appropriate service to respond to a mental health crisis. There may be moments in which the presence of a member of the police force could be inappropriate or even worsen a situation.
