Parish poll sparks fresh modernisation call

Ministers have been urged to ‘modernise the archaic 40-year-old system’ of parish polls after what is thought to be the first on a tax rise.

The National Association of Local Councils (NALC) called on the Government to implement reforms ‘without delay’ following a rare referendum in Salisbury where residents voted against a 44% rise in the city’s portion of council tax.
