‘Some are born great; some achieve greatness; and some have greatness thrust upon them.’ But, in my case, Tony Hunter (then chief executive of NE Lincs and president-in-waiting) went and found himself a new job and I was catapulted from the Vauxhall Conference to the Premier League in one fell swoop. No practice, no experience and no qualms whatsoever!

Of course, I soon developed a taste for the power and glory. But that’s another story. Meanwhile, at SOLACE Towers some daft sod changed the constitution mid-term and here I am completing my trimester as the only man daft enough to keep saying ‘yes’.
