Budget must give cities new chances for growth

Next week the chancellor will deliver his Budget, setting out the fiscal framework for some of the knowns and unknowns surrounding Brexit, and the future for funding and investment crucial to many cities’ survival and prosperity.

Hopefully the Budget will shed light on the future trajectory of city finances – particularly with a Spending Review looming, and a vocal lobby against business rates which could limit local capacity to raise money to a larger extent than now.
