Lumbering LEPs and a rethink on mayors

The launch of the Industrial Strategy on Monday was a bit of an anti-climax for local government, even before it was sacrificed by national media in favour of the Royal bride-to-be’s dazzling new diamond ring. 

At first glance, councils would have surmised they had been snubbed in favour of LEPs when it comes to control of local economic strategies. And they would be right.
