May defends social care precept

Theresa May has defended the decision to allow councils to increase council tax by 6% over the next two years to fund social care services.

Appearing before the Liaison Committee yesterday, the prime minister said that the increase in the social care precept and money diverted from the New Homes Bonus would help local authorities tackle the short-term pressures of social care.
